I’ve been in this Home Improvement business for over 30 years as owner of Toddco Builders. There are still a couple of things that I hear every once in a while that, “wow” – that’s news to me! How did this happen, I sometimes ask? I’m talking about conflict resolution. Are you having problems with a contractor? Sometimes it happens.
I’ve always looked at renovation projects as a short-term marriage. When that contractor comes to your home you must get along. It’s what it takes to ensure your project is successful, and that means making the right decisions. As you migrate through that project you want to make sure that you are knowledgeable of what’s going on in your home, and what happens when you hire one of Todd’s Trusted Pros. I’ve been-there-done-that. I’m here to give you the information that I believe you’re going to need to make your project very, very successful. Don’t forget folks you want to go to AsktheContractors.com. We take your questions, provide a Contractors Directory, and give you access to our endorsed Pros and the information you need for a successful home renovation and remodeling project.
Todd,
I recently remodeled a house in South Land Park area. First time I’d encountered “in wall” baseboard. Maybe not the correct name, but when built in 1953, they apparently installed 3 1/2″ baseboard, then installed the plaster board and plaster on top of it. From what I could tell, it was 1/4″ drywall type board with 1/2′ holes every 10 ” or so, wi th a layer of plaster over it with the plaster flowing into the 1/2″ holes to lock everything into place. The baseboard is mostly flush with the wall, and protruding maybe 1/8″ inch in a few places. I ended up not installing separate baseboards-mainly because I ran out of time–and painted everything the wall color. I prefer the contrast you get with white baseboards, rather than a continuous plane of one color, but some people may prefer that. Anyway, it was a challenge figuring out how to deal with that. Perhaps you can discuss this type of basboard in a future radio program?
