West Coast dominates the List

SmartAsset is out with it’s list of the markets with the biggest rise in home values, and California came up big–again.

We looked at Census Bureau data to rank the top 10 rising housing markets in America, considering the five-year change in home values and the five-year change in median household incomes.

Their key findings:

  • Six of the top 10 rising housing markets are in California, amid its current housing affordability crisis leads our Show Prep.
  • In two of these cities, the median value of homes increased by greater than 40%.
  • Zillow estimates the median home in the U.S. (Nationally) is worth $225-thousand, up from $148-thousand in January of 2012. That’s seven years and a gain of more than 52% in just seven years.
