Gain is larger than most analysts expected, and sales of new single‐family houses in February 2019 were above the revised rate from January.

That’s according to estimates released jointly this week by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Bankers on Wall Street were expecting a rate three-quarters that pace.

Nationwide, the median sales price of new houses sold in February was $315,300, up twelve-thousand from January.

The estimate of new houses for sale at the end of February represented a 6 month supply.
