A new survey found laundry rooms and energy-saving features topped buyers’ must-have lists.

The data from nearly 4,000 home-buyers ranked-features based on how important they are to a home purchasing decision.

The top 10 features also included:

  • Home-storage needs, such as garage storage and walk-in pantries. Hardwood flooring, a patio and exterior lighting.
  • Buyers are also selecting smaller homes. A result of higher home prices and tightening affordability.

A continued decline in the average home size since 2016 has decreased demand for upscale features such as three-car garages.

Location also matters to buyers.
The suburbs are the most desirable home location, followed by a rural setting and then the central city.

In the kitchen, open floor plans still reign supreme.

Not surprisingly, top finishes include stainless steel appliances, granite or natural stone kitchen countertops, and white kitchen cabinetry.
